Who We Are

For the land, for the people, for the water, for our collective future: we believe expanding the Greenbelt westward will protect & uphold the sustainability of southern Ontario.

Farmland, natural spaces, and critical water sources are threatened by multiple pressures across southwestern Ontario. We aim to protect these areas from inappropriate development & other pressures by working together across sectors & political boundaries to expand the Greenbelt meaningfully.

 

Our Mission

The Greenbelt West Coalition is dedicated to enhancing & formalizing protections for farmland, natural spaces, and critical water resources across southwestern Ontario. We fundamentally believe residents should have a right to enjoy the benefits & services of the natural features present in this area.

As communities & residents who depend on the natural world to survive, now is the time to establish environmental protections for our most cherished, life-sustaining natural assets in the region. We are calling on the provincial government to expand the Greenbelt West to contiguously protect these assets forever.

 

Our Coalition

Ecosystems, geological features, and water bodies above & below ground do not follow political boundaries. Together, they make up a complex web of interconnected parts that interact with and support life in all its forms in southern Ontario. Our coalition includes farmers, hydrogeologists, planners, retired professionals, researchers, non-profit representatives, veterinarians, community leaders, and others who all believe southern Ontario's future is worth protecting.

We’ve come together as a grassroots coalition of concerned residents & professionals, volunteering our time to progress these critical issues in the Greenbelt and surrounding areas. Our coalition includes:

 
 

What We’ve Achieved So Far

  • Identified opportunities and challenges in protecting southern Ontario

  • Brought people together to advocate for change & environmental protections

 

  • 1000+ submissions to the Environmental Registry of Ontario’s consultation on Greenbelt expansion

  • 1000+ signatures on our petition to expand the Greenbelt westward, including & beyond the Paris-Galt Moraine
